CHARACTERS: MEET YOUR MYTHICAL BUDDIESĬharacters in “God of War III” are not your regular video game folks. Nothing will if this doesn’t make you feel like a Ph.D.
The narrative is rich with Greek myths, using characters such as Hades, Hercules, and Poseidon to illustrate the brutality of the old gods and their fear of Kratos. Players find themselves in the sandals of Kratos, an ex-Spartan warrior turned God of War, who is on a zealous quest to murder Zeus, the King of the Olympian Gods, in an epic that begins at the end of God of War II. One cannot discuss “God of War III” without appreciating its heartrending plot that weaves a tale of vengeance and power. (Well, not “alive” in the traditional sense, as most of the characters are pretty dead.) Released on PlayStation 3, this game takes players on a thrilling journey through an underworld that’s as gruesome as it’s enchanting. For those who think mythology should include more severed heads, a heap of the undead, and a bit of friendly neighborhood bloodshed, we introduce “God of War III,” a masterpiece that brings Greek mythology alive.
